9-' --*~-~ The weekly meeting of the. Ctercts Frajjcai3, which was held on Vt'ufay evening last, proved to bo both interesting' and instructive. After the formal business had been disposed of, which' included a communication from the CimsuKieneral of Franco at Auckland regarding a proposed gift of books to the CcMo by the French Government, aft interesting discussion took place on Hie subject of "Le Socialisme, le culte moderne." The usaal well-known arguments for ,ii«t against Socialism were once again ventilated, but it was the vigour of spine of the speeches and the earnestness of tho speakers that gave an interest to the anpiments, which ended only when the usual hour of ad- : journment had arrived. Amongst those'i who took part in the, discussion wore' Madame Dccheenc and Miss Mead and Messrs. Hudson. Latter, C-ootw, Hodson Adamson, and Rigs. No vote was taken on the subjects
