A MIRACULOUS ESCAPE

* : ■ MAN FALLS 25 FEET. 'To fall from tho third story of an hotel to the ground floor, and suffer only minor injuries was tho rather miraculous escape from death experienced by a boarder named Patrick King yesterday morning. King is a ship's carpenter by occupation, and was staying at tho Leviathan Private Hotel, Manners Street, when tho affair occurred. Ho and another boarder are said to have had a difference which led to other boarders becoming involved. During tho trouble that followed at tho top of the stairway, King staggered backward, stumbled on tho top step' of the.stairs, and tho now-alarmed watchers saw him loso bis balance and go hurtling over tho banister to tho ground floor, 25ft. below. King owes his lifo to the fact that in his fall ho struck tho banister elbow of tho stair, which is a winding one. When the police were called, Sergeant Kelly and Constablo M'Callum discovered King lying in an unconscious condition on the grouud floor. Tho proprietor of tho hotel sent for Dr. M'Lcan, and a short time after ho arrived tho injured man regained consciousness. Tho doctor declared no bones to bo broken, but found King suffering. from shock and skin ebrasions. The. injured man was able to walk' back up. the stair past which •ho .had hurtled less than an hour, bejoro. . . : '. ' :
