Pirates at Kiau, north-east of Macao (I'ortugueso territory), held up and burned the British steamer Tni On (a vessel of 706 tons, owned bj; the Kuong On Company, Ltd.). Soveral were wounded, including some of the pirates. Thc.chicf officer, Mr. F. Evans, and 180 others arc missing. The pirates shipped as passengers, and overpowered the deck hands after a fierco struggle with the officers. The engines were then stopped, the steering gear disabled, and the- steamer set on .fire. -.. Incoming steamers rescued Captain Weatheroll, the chief engineer, and 157 of the passengers and crew.' There were no Europeans amongst the Tai On's passengers. It is feared two hundred perished.
