PARRAFIN OIL
ONLY A FASHIONABLE FAD-
As Mf. Frank Moore's motion to obtain a report from the medical superintendent of the Wellington Hospital on | the therapeutic properties and value of parrafin oil was treated with levity by | the members of the Hospital' Board, an ■ independent opinion was obtained yesterday from a medical authority of high repute in Wellington. "Parraßn oil," said the taodieo in question, "is the- fashionable fad of tho moment. Therapeutically it is not of much-Value, save th© aid it may give iis a lubricant to tto bowels. It is what. may bo termed a mild laxative, and as constipation and civilisation go hand in hand, anything that relieves (he former and so mates the latter more- endurable, is of service to the system. Many people suffering more fii - less from constipation, who hav-o probably not tried other remedies, have taken panaiui ml RiS it is the fashionable.fad of the moment, and derived , benefit from it. Paraffin -oil is an inert matter; it has no chemical properties, and therefore is not so valuable therapeutically as good olive oil. It is just oft—a lubricant to the bowels, and therefore often beneficial."
