MR. M'GOVERN'S DEATH

EIGHTH VICTIM OF HUTT EXPLOSION. Very general Tegret is felt at the death' of Mr. Virgil M'Govern,. tho eighth victim of the Upper Hutt explosion, who died in the Wellington Public Hospital on Sunday nigbt. Mr. Virgil M'Govern was a dentist, and. a member of the Upper Hutt Town Board, and was one of tho most popular young men in th© district. When picked up after the explosion, Mr. M'Govein was at least sixty odd feet right opposite from the doorway of the building, in which the explosion took place, and from indications was not facing tho burning building at the ■me it ha' itist t'-ned away therefrom. On the Wednesday following the oxp'csion b' was bright and cheerful, and was visited «by numerous friends. A week later he was suffering the result of a dangerous operation. He became totally unconscious, and in this state (practically) he remained until tho end, tweiity-eight days after tho explosion. Mr. M'Govern was unmarried, and lived with his mother and sister at Uppor Hutt. Ho was born at Kaitangata, and was 2o years of age. Ho camo to Wellington in 1896 with his parents, who for a time kept tho White Swan Hotel. Afterwards, ho lived at Taita, Kaiwarra, and AVallaceville, where his parents purchased and conducted tho Trentham Hotel. Ho was a pupil of tho Marist Brothers' School, and subsequently went to St. Patrick's College. Ho was engaged in tho grain business at Waimate for a while. In this district his uncle, the well-known owner of racehorses, resided. On March 25 ho was fleeted to tho Upper Hutt Town Board, but ho did not live to take his seat. Tho funeral will take place at Upper Hutt this morning. The deceased will bo buried in St. Joseph's Churchyard, and within a very short distance of four of the other victims of the disaster—Messrs. Mahoney, Comesky, Flynn, and Toohey.
