TALLY CLERKS' DEMANDS
FILED WITH THJE COURT. The Wellington Tally decks' Union' has filed with the Arbitration Clerk a modified set of demands. The principal requirements, according to tho riled documents, ate that the ordinary hours shall be freni 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., exclusive of raeal hours; on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to Boon; all other time shall be classed as overtime. Following are tho rates of pay demands ed:—(a) Oversea steamers, including Union Company's and intercolonial services—All cargo, coal, meat, etc.-, 12b, Cd. per day. (b) Workers who are em» ployed on half-days from 1 p,jti. shall be paid a minimum rate of 7s. 6d. for such half-day. This does not apply to Saturdays.- (c) Coastal shippisg, 2s. p«r hour, or part thoreof, day or night (minimum, two hours). Overtime is to bo paid at 2s. 6d. per hour, or any partthereof. Work in stream to bo paid for from tho time of leaving tho place of engagement and up to tho time of arrival at wharf on return. Clerks ordered dawn and not employed shall recemj a minimum of one-half day's pay. All work done on Sundays. Christmas Day, and Good Friday shall bo paid for at tlie rate of doublo overtime; work on any of the other holidays at tho rate of ordinary overtime between S a.m. and 5 p.m., and doublo overtime, bofort S a.m. or after 5 p.m. Meal hours aro asked a-s follow:— Breakfast, 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.: djmier, 12 noon to 1 p.m.: tea, S'p.ni. to 6 p.m.; supper hour and break for refreshments during the night of one hour between 10 p.m. and midnight. Clerks iSteploycd from midnight to 7 a.m. to bo. nltowed an interval for refreshments not exceeding half an'hour. Clerks shall not bo called upon to work mow tlism fivo hours coiisecutivoly without an tunity for a meal, except in the- case or a ship finishing at midnight, when they may' work six hours. All clerks arc to be engaged at soiftO definite placo to ho agreed iipois between tho secretary of tho union and:_ the employers. In the event #f failure to ngrbc, tobe determined by tho Labour Department. Tlio hours of engngeinent shall ho from 7.45 a.m. to 10 n.m.; 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturdays, 7.45 p.,m, to 9.30 a.m., 10.30 a.m. to iwan. No employer of labour shall bo a member of tho -union, and no member of tho union shall bo tho agent of any employer- as regards putting-men to work or discharigng'them, cs-cept in cases of emergency. The agreement shall apply to casual tally clerks and not to weekly employees or preference cas-ual tally elnvfcs. Preference- is to bo granted to uraon. ists. Tho agreement shall apply to _tlw wharves, port, and harbour of Wellington, and shall Tcmftin iu operation for not more than two years.
