SICK BENEFIT AND FtJNERAfc FUND.
(By T«lesf«vph—Prese Aesocidtioßil ' Chrlstchurch, April 18. The conference of the furniture trade which has been sitting during the past few days resumed to-day for its final sitting, Mr. D. Sullivan being ift the chair.
The first business was Consideration of recommendations of the Special Committee on the Wellington remit,: "ThaiCongress be asked to take into consideration the advisability of establishing a sick benefit and funeral fund."
The committee recommended thfft a. fund be established on the lines of the Wellington sick benefit f-ufid> the fnnd to be on a voluntary basis and the federation to bo asked to initiate the fund with a grant of £50. It was als© recommended that an actuaries' opinion be obtained on tho question. Mr. barlow moved and Mr. Sullivan seconded that a ballot be taken as to whether the association join the SocialDemocratic Party. This was carried with the addition that a ballot be taken. t ill August and that a copy of tho Soeiat-. Democratic Constitution, together with reasons for and against th& course, bo sent to every member of the Federation.
It was decided that the executive ire empowered to entor into an agreement with tho federated Fiirnishiiig Tfade Society of Australasia irith respect to a reciprocally acceptable clearance card between all Australasian funiituro societies also that unions bs reMrinniendetl to support tho "Trade Journal" is&Uecl by tho society.
It was resolved thai legislation be asked for to prevent all sales of 'secondhand bedding and upholstering until it had been subjected to some thorough system of disinfection.
