DIBECTOR-GENERAL APPOINTED. By Telegraph—Press Association—CJoprright Melbourne, April 17. Brigadier-General Bridges has been appointed Director-General of the Australian Forces. ' Brigadier-General Bridges, Commandant of tho Eoyal Military College of Australia since l its establishment under tho Kitchener scheme, was born in Scotland in 1861. He obtained a'commission in the New South Wales Artillery in 1885, and has had a distinguished military- career. Ho served -in the Boer War, and was for several year-5 on tho Commonwealth Headquarters' Staff, also' beinff nt different times-Chief of Intelligence, Chief of tho Geiieral Staff, and Australian representative on the Imperial General Staff in London. ■" ■ '
