OUR BUTTER-A CONQUEST

REPORT FROM AJIHKICA.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) New Plymouth, April 15. 'A letter just received by Mr. K. Griffiths, a local dairy produce merchant, from Huston, states Hint Now Zeulnw) butter Ims completely revolutionised the butter industry of tho Pacific Coast, and middle districts, and has put. Ciiliforniiin butter out of repute. New Zealand butter is very much liked also in NonYork. . Tho only drawback is that some lots have contained traces of presorvaline. Tho writer states that one lot of Now Zealand butter bought in New York was the "slickest piece of butter he ever saw. Its magnificently velvety texture and perfectly cleat- flavour ' have taken the. conceit out of somo of oiir butter people, who have always had an idea that they know all about tho butter business. But it' is very evident wo can get points from you." ' He predicts greatly increased trade when tho Panama Canal has been opened.

The butter referred to is probably a trial shipment that was forwarded" to New York and Chicago by way of London by Messrs. J. B.' MacEwan and Co., of this city. Mr. MacEwau is pretty su'ro that there will be a big market waiting New Zealand butter on the populous East Coast of America as soon as the cool storage steamers from this country are ablo to pass through the Panama Canal. At present the journey via London occupies between 55 and 60 days to reach Now York, which is asking a good deal of any butter, but results proved that local 'butter is a much superior article to tho American commodity of ordinary commerce,' and there are hundreds of thousands of peoplo in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, and a hundred other populous cities prepared to pav for the best.
