DISASTER TO ABERDEEN EXPRESS
COLLIDES AT SIXTY MILES AN HOUR
NARROW ESCAPE FROM APPALLING DISASTER A PLUCKY GUARD By Tolejraph—Press Association—Copyricht London, April 14. The Aberdeen express collided with an engine at Burntisland, I'ifo. The driver'and fireman of the express were killed and four passengers were seriously injured. The express was going downhill at a speed of a mile a minute. Owing to a corner tho driver and fireman did not soo a goods train until it was impossible to apply tho brakes. Tho express struck the goods train obliquely, otherwise an appalling disaster would nave occurred. Tho engine, three luggage vans, and a passenger coach were derailed and flung on to golf links. The driver and fireman did not attempt to jump from tho engine and were crushed to death at their posts. Trotter, tho guard, escaped by creeping through a window. Though severely shaken, he pluekily extinguished tho flaring gas under the overturned carriages. Tho goods engine only lost a buffer, and was able to resume its journey.
