mr. buxton created 'a .Viscount. By Tolegra-ph—Prcs3 Association—Copyright London, April 13. Mr. Sydney Buxton, formerly President of the Board of Trade, who is to succeed Lord Gladstone as GovernorGeneral of South Africa, has been created a Viscount.
Mr. Sydney Buxtoji was formerly Post-master-General. He exchanged this office for the Presidency of the Board of Trade in February, 1910, and has been TTiuler-Secretary for the Colonies. Hβ has eat for Poplar since 1885, and, in harmony with the feeling; of his constituency, abstained froro joining the Radical opposition to the Aliens Bill of 1905. He has written a summary of the arguments for both sides on "Political Questions," which is found highly useful to debating societies. He fl ns born in 1853, his father having been in Parliament before him, and was educated at Clifton and Trinity College, Cambridge.
