The University Easter tournament continued to-day', the principal item on tho programme being the championship meeting at Lancaster Park. Tho ground was in excellent order for this event, and quite suitable for fast times, some of which were put up, in spite of a very strong cross-wind. Tho. principal ovent of the morning was the establishment of a new Univtrsity record for tho mile by A. Hudson, of Victoria College. His time was 4min. 32sec. -Results:— Athletic Events. This was good going, in view of tho side-wind.

Hudson went out from the.start, with a view to breaking the University record, and succeefled in his aim, in spite of the strong wind which .prevailed. He led from tho start, and gradually increases his lead from twenty-five yards in the first lap to about one hundred and twenty yards at the 'finish. His lap times wore: 64sec., 2min.llsec., 3min. 20scc., nrid 4min. 32sec. Tho previous record was reduced by 4sec. Bishop secured sasond place by five yards from Shaw.

Kaye appeared in the lead at the back stretch, but was.caught at the bottom of the straight. Ho struck and iell at the last hurdle, and Stewart, who was with Jhim,-ran in a winner by four yards. Young audi Fisher came up well and made a head heat of it. Fisher atruck the seoond hurdle, and was back for a time, but recovered well. The timo (62sec.) constitutes still another record.
' O'io, Mile Relay Race.—Previous champions, Auckland College. Result: Auckland (Cox, Grice, Harston, Forsdickj, 1,; Victoria College (Scddon, East, Kobinson and' Buckley;, 2;' Canterbury College (Young, Richards, H. S. Richards, and Baucnop), 3. Otago did not compete. This was a very exciting race, Auckland winning only on the last lap. lame, 3mm. 39 l-sseoi The Shield Points. The Shield was won by Otago, the ocores being as follow :-Otago: Five firsts, four seconds, and one dead licat in second place; 14} points. Auckland: Three firsts, four seconds; 10 points Canterbury: Two firsts, three seconds' and one dead heat in second place; 71 points. Victoria College: Three firsts, one second; 7 points. Changes In Debating Tests. _ A meeting of delegat-es to the University Tournament was' lield this morning. A motion to alter tho system of marks for judging debating contests' was carried, and the system now will be that 40 marks will be given for matter, 30 for manner, and 30 for method. Tho old system was 50 marks for matter and 25 each for manner and mothod. The change will encourage public speaking in place of spoken essays. Haslam Shield. _ It was also decided that tho regulations for tho Haslam Shield (shooting) should be altorod to permit the shooling to be done before May 30, in plaeo of April 30 as before. The Cancelled Capping. A meeting of repres-entativoß of the yarious students' associations was held
this morning to consider the question of tho students' altitude towards tho decision of tho Senate in tho abolition of Diploma Day. After somo discussion it was dccided that it was desirablo that some ceremony should bo held, and it was resolved to communicate with tho governing bodies, 'professorial boards, and university councils of each university college with a view to securing thoir co-operation. It was felt that, if tho studonts had somo share in tho control of tho ceremony, they would be ablo to proposo something tbat would be acceptable and suitable for tho occasion, and eliminuto tlio present objcctionablo features. Boxing Results. The boxing results were as follow:— Light-weight: A. Hudson, Victoria College. Welter-weight: Marshall, Otago. Feather-weight: Holderness, Cantorbury. Middle-weight; T. H.
