0— _— FIRST-CLASS HOTELS, 14s. PER DIEM. At a mooting of licensed victuallers of first and second-class hotels in Wellington, called together by tho Wellington .branch of tho New Zealand Liconsod \ ictuallers' Association, it was decided, in viow of the rise- in wages and concessions in hours of hotel workers, to raise the tariff to the public in or'der that the extra- cost'may bo "passed on." In tho classification made at tho meeting, tho IIOIISO3 listed as first-class hotels were the.Royal Oak, Grand, Empire, and Cecil. In the oaso of the three first-mentioned, hotels, tho tariff to tho casual boarder has tip to the present, been 12s. 6d.'per day. 'That'tariff iii now to bo.increased to 14s. per day. The tariff at the Hotel Cecil has been fls. per day.. It will now bo changed to 10s. Cd..per day. The commercial traveller rates will be 12s. Cd. per day at the Oak, Grand,-and Empire, and 9s. at tho Cecil. . The list of second-class hotels includes the Albert, Occidental, Barrett's Now Commercial, Post Office, Pier, and Now Zealander. In each of these rases the licensoea agreed to advance tho rates by Is. 6d. per day, which means that the Bs. per day house will chargo 9s. 6d., and tho 7s. Pd. houso will chargo 9s. Tho new tariff is to come into operation on the same day as the Hotel Workers' Union's now award—April 20. •
