MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL

A meeting of the Maksra County Council was hold on Thursday. There wero present: Councillors T. H. Eastwood (chairman), J. H. Haggej-tyj A. J; Taylor, F. J. Moore, H. J, Monagbah, and 6. Monk.

Tho chairman was authorised to.deaj with tho question of fences alleged to be encroaching on tho roads m tho town of Tawa. It was reported that tho greater portion of tho land had been sold. ' --. Councillor Mooro reported that ratepayers interviewed objected to any further work being done on Rowlands Hoad. It was decided not to proceed with tho proposed blinding of the road. On Councillor. Haggerty's metion, it was resolved that the whole council should wait upon, the eugineor and inspect tlie road. ' ;_■.. A formal demand was received for the council's share, £7200, towards the cost of maintenance of the Wellington Hutt Road. It was resolved that should there bo a conference of local bodies in connection with the apportionment of, and controlling body for, the Hutt Read, that Councillor Mooro should attend and support the council, having representation on tho board of control, Tho Wellington Hospital and Gharitablo Aid Board wroto notifying tho council that thoir apportionment usder tho Hospital and Charitable Institutions Amendment Act, was £552 4s. A circular letter from the Minister of Defenco (the Hon. James Allen), aslsing could work bo found by the'council for conscientious and military objectors to tho defence scheme was considered. It was decided to reply that tho council could find work on the roads for such Objectors. Complaint was mado about stock Wandering on the roads, and it was resolved to advertiso for a new raiigor and dogtax collector. Accounts amounting to £362 10s. 2(3. were passed for payment.
