The lioavy weather which prevailed all day to-day culminated with a fierce westerly gale- to-night bringing' up a tremendous sea which played havoc with the- buildings on tho beach frontage. Fences and outbuildings disappeared, and in some- instances sea water was rushing into tho premises, causing tho residents considerable , anxietv.
