At a meeting of the Dunedin' Presbytery to-day a deputation representing the 'undertakers in the city and suburbs attended to discuss the question of funerals on Sundays. . . : , The Rev. J. K. M'lntyre, who introduced the deputation, proposed that an agreement should be entered into that ministers should refuse to conduct Sunday funerals except in cases represented by a doctor to be of urgent necessity j in such cases the funerals to take place at an early hour. The undertakers present expressed themselves as strongly opposed to funerals on Sunday, and the opinion was expressed that the clergy as a wholo were of a "similar opinion. New Plymouth, April 7. : The strong gas indications which havb been experienced at the rotary bore of the Taranaki New Zealand OilweEs during the past few days led to the hope of further developments as the bore is carried deeper. 'Since Saturday the bore has been deepened nine feet, and on Monday night as sand pumping operations were proceeding a sudden outburst of gas, oil, and mud was twice thrown over the top of the * derrick. Early this morning another blow-out yielded fifteen.barrels of pure oil, which were saved. The force was so great that it disconnected the two-inch' pipe leading to the tank' outside the bore. The activity continued all day, and tho latest report of the manager is that the bore is filling itself of mud, and getting into oil. HORSE THIEVINC. '.;■■ • Marton, April 7. At the Police. Court to-day Frank Taylor, a 3'oung man, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for stealing a saddle and bridle, ihe property of,his employer at Rewa. For stealing a horse and selling tho same accused pleaded guilty, and was remanded to the Supreme Court for sentence. For failing to account for moneys belonging to'his employer at Waipukurau, tho accused was fined 10s. on two charges. "TIRED OF LIFE." Dunedin, April 7. George Harrow, an old resident of Macetown, was found dead in his hut at Eight. Mile yesterday. There was a bullet wound in the forehead, ( and a revolver beside the body. A not© which was left by deceased stated that he was in bad health and tired of life. He was a single man, .82 years of age, and had lived at Eight Mile for over 40 years. ' POLITICAL ADDRESS. . '■' Foxton, April 7. Mr. Robertson, M.P., addressed about 300 electors in the Town Hall last night.' Ho adversely criticised the _ Government's policy. Speaking at the North-East Valley on Saturday, the Postmaster-General (Hon. R. H.
