CONFERENCE AT HAWERA
A. & r. REPRESENTATION. (By Tfileßrfl'Ph. —Pxosa Association.) Hawera, April. 6. An important confercnco of representatives from the Taranaki, Stratford, Hawera, Wavcrley, and Wanganui A. and P. Associations was held at Hawera to-day. Fourteena delegates were present, and Mr. B. C. Lysaght, president of the Egmont Association occupied the chrtir. Matters affecting tho different associations discussed, and remits adopted for presentation to the Board of Agrictulture. ' ; It was decided that it- be a recommendation to \Vauganui to a Ivor its dates in tho direction of holding its show one week after the Palmers toil North show, instead of a fortnight, as at present; other_ shows along the coast to follow in serial order. Resolutions were passed bringing under {he notivo of tho Dominion Conference the advisability of giving a central body' the power of enforcing the rulings of the confcrence by disqualification, or Otherwise. , . ; • Remits to the Board of Agriculture included the following:—(1) That tho Government be- asked to exhibit portions of' their State Farm stock, at shows. A feeling was expressed-that the stock' on experimental farms should be allowed to compete at • shows with private individuals, and a motion, that this stock-be for exhibition only-, .was lost. (2) Asking the Board of Agriculture to bring before the Government the need for more satisfactory methods in the eradication of noxious weeds, especially ragwort and blackberry. Also, that experiments should-be conducted with a- view to removing common fern on hill country. • (3) Urging the Board to bring under the notice of the Government the scarcity of suitable farm labour in tho country.
