Tho French Senate is •disinclined to sanction tho investing of the llochette Commission with judicial powers, fearing that this would be a step towards tho Deputies' usurpation of judicial power, as they had already usurped a largo share of tho executive power. ■ Giving evidence beforo the Rochette Commission, M. Monis stated' that M. Fabre agreed that tho adjournment would not affect tho case, i feared that the public wonld misinterpret it.

M. Monis denied that undue pressure was exercised upon M. Fabre. It was stated in the Senate that M. Calraette had scoured possession, of a letter from the Procurator-General to the then Premier, M. Monis, showing that M. Monis had exerted pressure to ensuro that he permitted Rophotte to escape bo as to shield M. Caillaux' transactions..
