HEAVY LOSS BY FIRE.
ATWAVERLEY WHOLE BLOCK DESTROYED. (By TelearaDh.—Pres3 Association.) Waverley, March 18. A fire occurred at 3 o'clock this morning in the promises of Moore and Fitzsimmons (hairdressers and billiardsaloon proprietors), and spread to those of J. B. Dawson (land agent), Eames (chemist), Merriman (jeweller),/ and Dixon's Hall (to which tho "Tribune" plant had been removed). Tho whole block of buildings known as Dixon's Block, together with all tho contents, was dpstroyed. Cathie's stationery premises were partially gutted, but the brigade arrested the progress of tho fire. However, the stock was practically ruined. The Bank of Now South Wales was only saved by strenuous efforts, but a good deal of furniture was damaged. Fortunately, thero was no wind. The insurances are: —On tho buildings. £550 iii the Atlas office, £150 in tlmNew Zealand; Bank, furniture, £200 in tho New Zealand office: Mooro and Fitsrsimmous, £450 in the National: Cathie. £50 in the Royal Exchanse, and £330 in the National'; Dalton, £50 in tho Royal Exchange; Eames. £450 in the Atlas jMerriman, £600 in the South British and £20 in the Atlas; printing plant, £200 in the New Zealand.
