EXETER TRAIN SMASH. SOME THRILLING INCIDENTS 5r Telearraph—Pr«ss Assoclation-Copyrieht Sydney, March 16. Extraordinary escapes characterised tho railway disaster at Exeter, where an oncoming train telescoped a goods train which was crossing the points to a siding, reducing the carriages in the vicinity of tho impact to •wtchwood, the accident being attended with, loss of life and terrible suffering. One man and his wife escaped with slight shock,'while-Mr. Minnis's wife, sitting on the opposite seat, was killed. Another passenger sitting still, had two dead bodies thrust upon him. Several children in. the fatal carriages wero thrown into tho conicrß and on j to the racks. ' I They wero, lifted out little tho worse for their startling experiences. So completely wore the four compartments wrecked -that it is marvellous that any of tho passengers escaped. The Right Hon. W. F. Massey, Prime Minister, has sent the following cablegram to the Premier of New South Wales regarding the recent railway disaster at Exeter: "On behalf of 1 tho Government and people of New Zealand, I desire to. express our deep regret at the railway calamity which has occurred in your State, and also to offer .our sincere sympathy unto the bereaved relatives and friends of the sufferers—W. P. Massey." .
