T. Fctct-, Xβ Kuiti, when being ridden
from tho racecourso by. his trainer on Monday, was run into by a motor-car near tho traffic bridge. Tho rider was thrown over the fence, and tlie horse was so much knocked about that it is feared he may havo to bo destroyed.
Soultbino, tho full-brother to tlio speedy Soultlinc, made his debut under silk at Te Aroha on Monday, when ho contested tho Piako Hack Handicap. Soultbino is not unlike his illustrious brother (says tho Auckland "Star"), but in the raco ho was never prominent
Yankee-. Doodle competed in thrw event-3 at tho To Aroha meeting, and ,was ridden by a different horseman each time. On tho first day, he was hopelessly left, and again on Monday in tho Waihou-Handicap, ho was last to leavo tho mark, aftor delaying tho, start for some considerable time. • He, however, proved his 'worth as a galloper by beating all but Spalfish-in the race. Ho was produced again in tho final race, and after delaying tho start by clearing out with his rider (M'Devitt), it .was decided to blindfold him. Afterwards ho stood quietly, but was slow to movo when tho barrier rose, and was in tho rear position when a furlong had been covered. A lot of ground, however, was mado crossing, the top, and when_heads wero turned for home, ho was in tho lead, the advantage being maintained to the post. He was the outsider of tho field.—Auckland "Herald."'
When-Black Northern won the Manawaru Hurdles at To Aroha on Monday, a noisy demonstration- was made by a section of the crowd, both horse, and rider being vigorously hooted on' returning to tho paddock. To thoso who were not conversant with the pecu'iar moods of the Salvadan gelding, Black Northern's performance looked very suspicious, as on the first day he was a quarter; of a mile in tho rear when Rapid passed the post, but it did not tako long to convince the stewards that everything was above board (says a northern exchange). There can be no doubt about Black Northern's capabilities as a hurdler if he can be kept on tho course,, but he has ran off so often that only a very brave man would support him solidly in his* races. On Monday Black Northern complete'd -tho course for the first time out of-''about 15 starts.
