The ; Lord Mayor and Mr. Carmichael (State Minister .of Education), in the presence of a large gathering at theTown Hall, welcomed Dr. Ma'wson, who stated that popular lectures on tho .exoedition would he delivered in Australia beforo being delivered in England. The popular story of the expedi■tioii ,• would be '■ printed in.. England, but the scientific results, which would 'occupy ■ many volumes, would, bo published in Australia. The explorer declared that the Antarctic . played the greatest part in the world's climate of any land mass. He mentioned that the wind-driren snow formed an impervious, mask to the face. The weirdness of : the scene was increased at night, by the, blue lights, which scintillated from the face, hands, and clothes —supposed to be electricity, with 9'hich tho. atmosphere, was surcharged.
