A packed andienee filled the King's Theatre last night to witness the exhi--1 bition of "The Miracle," one of tho most spectacular and altogether wonderful films over seen in Wellington-. This mystic play without words lends itself peculiarly well to pictorial representation, nn& the film based upon it is a • conspicuous -success. Tho tniisie incidental to tho piece is *)f notable beauty. 1 Last night the huge erewd in the ; theatre was held in rapt attention and wonderment. As on the. preceding ■ night, a large number of intending pa* irons could not gain admission to the . house. _ The programme also includes s«nto views <vf last week's carnival, and - excellent pictures have been secured . of the gay crowds in Newtown Park, J "The Miracle'* is to be screened throughout the week, and a matinee performance will bo given on Saturday. ■ ■ the empresTtheathe; There will be a complete change of. programme to-day at the Empress The- ■ atre Continuous Pictures, which will bo'; i headed "by the Kalem Company's society "feature" drama, "A Shot in the : ; Night." ■ SONG RECITAt. To imisic-kvers in Wellington the vocal recital which was given in the Sydney Street Schoolroom last evening by Miss Groshofe and Mr. C. H. Stephens, with Mrs. Stephens as accompanist, was an unalloyed pleasure. It is a matter for. regret that Mr. Stephens is so seldom heard at concerts now, for although net dowered with.a powerful tenor voice, he- is temperamental a/rid afway-s artistic .in his singing. Miss Groshor/? is new to Wellington, and is really but a bird of passage,' leaving shortly on her return to England, ■• but those who heard her last evening at ones recognised a contralto 6-f uncommon beauty and culture, A weli-chosen programme was presented to tho audience, which filled the sehsotrooni., and needless to. say great appreciation was expressed. It -included two duets by Goring Thomas '—"Beneath the Stars" alvd "Deftr Love fil Mine" (from the opera "Nadesha"), aiul two ducts by Schumann, the "Danco Song" and "Fair is the Sprrogijiko," Miss Grosholz's further contributions were a bracketed n-uhiber, "Pc-iisse d'A&tojmie" (Massenet) and "My Heart is Weary" (Goring -Thomas), a trio of Malliason songs, "Four by the Clock," "Slow Horses, Sfew," and "Beatrice." These were sung as one seldom heai-s-Mallinssm songs sung, .and later they : wei'is followed by another trio, "Lor-i ■raiiio, Lorraine, Loree" "<H. Cape)), "Red Indian Lullaby" (Orlando Morgan), and "Sons of Simshino" (Goring Thomas). Mr. Stephens's contributions to the programme, in addition to his share in the duets, were a bracket, "TheSands ©' Dee" (F. Clay), and, "Pack Clouds Away", (Jessie Bo'tterill), a. trio of Shatapeeare songs by R. Qu-iltef s and a bracket of three- songs, f,Diaphenia" (B. Harwood), "Tho Blue HiTs of Antrim" (Hamilton Hatty), and "Would You Know the Kind of Jtaid?" (Sullivan). Both singers naturally were heartily encored. Not the least part of tlie success of the concert Was due to the' artistic acoompaiviments played by Mrs- H, C. Stephens.
