THE EXAMINATION SUCCESSES. The ordinary meeting of the Wellington Collego Board of Governors was held yesterday.. Those present were: Messrs. A do B. Brandon (chairmau\ R. Lee, W. H. Field, W. F. Ward, and W. H. P. Barber.

The following wero the examination successes gained by the boys of tho Wellington College Military entrance, Duntroon, 3; junior university scholarships, 6; matriculation and engineering preliminary, 4; matriculation, solicitors' general knowledgo, and medical preliminary, 14; matriculation and solicitors' general knowledge, 3; matriculation, 5; matriculation (completed), 2; senior Education Board scholarships, 4; senior free places 'by scholarship examination, 26; Junior free places by scholarship examination, 14; senior free placo examination, 39; junior free placo examination, 8; junior Civil Service (credit), 16; junior Civil Service (pass), 23;. senior Civil Service complete, 3; partial, 3. Commenting upon these' results and tho number of their members, tho board expressed the opinion that examinations held too prominent a place in tho modern 6chool life.

Tho Principal of the Girls' _ School reported thai*?'in the recent University examination four girls gained credit at the junior scholarship examinations, thus gaining bursaries. As Dora Popo was highest on the credit list, a scholarship fell to her. Eleven other girls passed the matriculation, two gaining partial passes, and ono passed on tho junior scholarship papers. .Fivo girls had entered at very short notico .for tho Public Service Senior Examination, and ail had passed, ono in tho full number of subjects, three in five, and one in three subjects. Other results were: —Fifty-seven pupils gained senior freo places,; 14 were granted a year's extension cf their junior free places, and 6 pupils (all that tho Principal had recommended).were given proficiency certificates. In the Education Board scholarships one pupil, Doreen Britland, was awarded a junior national scholarship, being first in tho Wellington Province, and fivo others were awarded sch6larships, 3 junior and 2 senior.
