A'meeting of drapers' assistants, 1 convenod by a circular signed- by Arthur Rossor, was held at the Trades Hall, wittitho -object of forming an industrial trades union on tho lines of those existing in Wellington; Wanganui, Christchurch, and Duneclin,' . •■ Itvis stated that only fifteen drapers' assistants wore present, and that a resolution, was passed in favour of tho formation of a union'. A largo number of assistants were refused -admittance, beiiig informed it was only for those who liad received notice. ■■ A meotiug in opposition to , the mpveoierit was held in another- hnll., A motion was , carried" expressing'.strong resentment against drapers' assistants being denied admittanoo to tho meeting called by au individual not connected with tho drapery trade, and expressing the opinion that any such meetings should be publicly convened and open to all employees of drapers and allied trades. Auckland, February 25. Another meeting of drapers' assistants jailed by.Mr. J. Purtell, a. member of ■ the executive of the recent strike,' took place to-night for the purpose- of form.mg a new union; and registering it. A largo and very critical gathering listened while Mr. Purtell dealt: generally with unions, and complained _of the action taaen by Mr. Rosser, who' had called a meeting, of drapers' assistants last night.and formed,a new union with nbout lifteen members. Mr- Purtell complainecßhat' hi"had _boMi, working up this; jiow union for two' mouths, and ho suggested that Mr. Rosser had got in in tVoritof ;him in an unfair manner. ; 'Jjhe meeting showed a' disposition "to chaff Mr. Purtell, and eventually carried a resolution that up action bo taken.
