PREPARATIONS COMPLETE. .... : /,•■
Colonel R. J. Collins visited the ranges at Trentham on Saturday. ,Hc states that all ■ - arrangements had been practically .-■ completed by Thursday last.' The targets have been .re-papered, several butts built up, and the grass cut. A good supply of water is also assured. The miniature range was completed on Saturday, and-tho butts built for the /'running man." Yesterday morning twenty-five men from the K.N.Z.A. went out to pitch the camp. This work was supervised by Captain Grant, of Oamaru, who will act as camp adjutant. Fifty civilean'' markers have been employed, and members of the R.N.Z.A. will.take up duty as telephonists. The latter will also assist in the-marking trenches if required. The catering is being undertaken by Mrs. Hagan, and the association have placed their buildings and other requisites at her service. " • _ Colonel Hughes arrived from Wanga-. nui last'night. This morning he will be in camp, and will overlook the final touches before the meeting begins. Colonel Collins and a number of other'officers and competitors will also, go into camp to-morrow, and Captain <Mabin has already gone out. i At 8 o'clock on Thursday morning the riflemen' fall in, and it is anticipated that the first shot will-be fired by' 9 a.m. Tho meeting will open with the No. 1 Match, B Series, classification practice match, which is compulsory for all. It will begin : on'■'■the ' Collins 'Range. Competitors will be divided into two sections, A and J3, and while A; section is occupying Collins ilange, B Section- .will commence. tho. No. 2 Rapid Firing Match and Snapshooting Match, from tho Somerville Range. In the afternoon the two sections will exchange places. Tho "running man" will bo kept going through the meeting, ( and the distance judging- competition .will start on Friday, and continue daily till completed. The final in the championship will be fired on Thursday, March 5, and the distribution of prizes will take place immediately afterwards. It was hoped that Lady Liverpool would perform, this duty, but His Excellency the' Governor has' written to Colonel ting that, owing to absence in Christchurch, tho Vice-Regal party will not bo able to be present.
