BOXING.
CARNIVAL TOURNAMENT.
A meotirig of the committee of the Wellington Boxing Association was held last night. There.were present: Messrs. M'Villy (in the chair), Fordhara, Smith, buire,' Staples, Coffey, and Dawson. Tho meeting was to make arrangements for:a carnival tournament to le held during Carnival Week.. The date was fixed for Eriday, March 6, and it was decided to make the main attraction a match ' between Barney Ireland (Waipawa) and E. Lowe (Gisbbrrie),.for the heavy-weight championship and a purse of £50. Arrangements for three preliminary bouts' (amateur) were left in the hands of Mr. Staples. It was decided to award a special trophy for the most scientific display. Officials were'appointed as follow:—Referee, Mr.'• T. Sampson: stage, managers, Messrs. Day and Dawson: announcer, Mr. F. Gale; seconds, Messrs. Cook and Bridge. Prices were'fixed at 55., 35., and 2s. The recent' mail vote en proposals from the council to'alter rules was considered. The voting showed that on most proposals Wellington, was out on its own in the voting.
