SAD OCCURRENCE.
(By Tfelezra-pfc—SpfecM Correspondent.}. I Palmerst'On, February 17. Monday's river fatality occurred on tho FitCToy Street beach, where scows throng nightly, to bathe. The river, is of uneven depth, owing- to logs and other causes, and- probably 'the s-rnsUl death-roll at this spot'hitherto is diie te the fact that most of ; those who bathe are- swimmers. The recent hot weather naturally produced a. somewhat general desire tor bathing, and possibly the accident may increase the support given, to the approaching municipal baths seberae, which, on former occasions, has had only a lukewarfli reception. Ernest King, the victim of.the accident, was aged 15. He had separI ated from his bathing companions,.who> Wing better swimmers, chose deeper water* ;When he , got out of his depth a, lad on the bank nailed for help, but, when the other swimmers arrived., ho was not visible. 'The body was discovered an hour and a half kterj twa chains down stream.
