The excessive cold has caused nine deaths. Several frozen J bodies were found jn tho streets. The unemployment problem is pressing, as the municipal shelters are overcrowded. . , ' ■ Despite the cold, thirty-six athletes started in the Brooklyn annual Marathon, f a distance of 26 miles, Only eleven finished; the others were sent to hospital in an exhausted condition, - SEVERE SNOW STORMS.
