NANTUCKET'S CAPTAIN
PLACED ON TRIAL!

Philadelphia, February 11. Captain Berry, the Nantucket's captain, was trial, in connection,, with the collision': between ttie.'.Naii-. tucket and.the Monroe last month, when 49 lives were lost. He was charged .with negligent navigation and caus■lngthe loss of tho steamer Monroe. Ho pleaded not guilty. The charges declare that ho did not reduce the engines' epeed until a minute before the collision.
MONROE'S COMPASS WRONG, (llec. February 12, 9,35 p.m.) York, February li. Captain Johnson, of the Monroe, has admitted that at the time of tho collision he was navigating. the Monroe with a compass deviating two degrees from the standard compass.
