AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL,
A meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur -Athletic- Association was held on Wednesday. There were present: —Messrs. A. Davis (in the chair), C; E. Bridge, J. H. Pollock, B. L. Chaffey, J. C. Cusack, B. A.- Guises, A. A. Marryatt, and \X. G. Taibofc (lion, secretary). The Auckland representatives of the New- Zealand Athletic team, which returnedi from Australia yesterday after attending the Australasian. Championships, were introduced to t-hs Council by Mr. Marryatt, and were welcomed back. Mr. M. E, Biimett was nominated a delegate for the Canterbury Centre. It was. decided that tho motion, should become operative from nest metftmg, if tho Canterbury Centre- did not themselves appoint a delegate in the meantime. ■ ' . . A letter was received from the- City Council,.stating that all applications for the uso of the Basin Reserve in the summer, with right to charge, had to be made beibre .October 1 in each year, ■ —It was decided to fraid the letter over for consideration. Tho Auckland Centre wrote notifying that they had passed a resolution suspending the. secretary, pending a definite settlement of certain matters in connection with the carnival held in May, 1913, on the occasion cf the visitor H.M.S. New Zealand. Tho Auckland Centre, wrote asking permission to. hold -their return meeting to the Americans on March 14, the date the San Francisco boat was leaving Auckland.... It: was stated that there would be no difficulty in delaying tho vessel for a couple of hours.*—lt was decided to-grant the request, swb- , ject to the consent of thtt American. manager.; ; TJie Auckland Centre noti* fied , that they would ooii tribute 33 1-3 per cent, of the net profit to the association.
•'The -lion, secretary of tho-:N«w- Zealand "University Tournament Committee wrote'asking permission to hold tile annual New Zealand University Amateur Athletic Championship meeting at Christchurch on Aprs! Vi, 1914, under the usual conditions,—The application: was granted,.subject to the consent of the. local centre. Permission was grsmted to hold the South Island Championships in contiec'tion with the Saethlnml Championships, on February 25,' with a view to making aii annual fixture, rotating between the different centres., . Applications were received from Albert Norman, Edwin Silb.v, andi Arthur W; M'Ncish for reinstatement, as amiiteurs. The applications wer«' granted. Robert T. Kirk was iiiitructcd to apply again in 12 months' time. . It was decided to send to the Australasian Union for confirmation particulars of E. R. Caughey'n (U.S.A.) 16-pound record shot put,'bf 44ft. 3in., at Athletic Park, on December 20, 1913. Alterations to ruk-s, suggested at, the Australasian Conference, were agreed to,,with some slight amendments. Oμ rule passed was that the name of the union should bo changed ..from "The Amateur Athletic Union of Australasia" to "The Amateur Athletic .Union of Australasia and New Zealand."
