THORNDON CLUB RACES. ,On Yy'ednesday evening tho •Thorndon Swimming Club got off the final of tho SO ■ yards handicap, preliminary 'heats for which had been decided on" Tuesday evening. Details are as follow:-—H. W. H&ris, 12sec, 1; W. R. King, 9scc 2; S. Dudson, 4sec, 3. Also competed: C. Davidson, 9sac, W. O'Meara, Csec.. T. Duffy, 4sec;, and S. , Henrys, 4sec. Time, 40sec. A splendid finish resulted. Harris gainod the verdict by *n touch from King, who'waa inches only ahead d Dudsoii. •A specially arranged 50 yards handicap resulted as follows:—A. W. Smith, 9sec, 1; J. A Fijian named Aminio Marama, who has been performing some rather wonderful feats in under-watcr swimming, u'ill, it is. stated, give an exhibition. At the baths last Sunday morning this South Sea Islander is said to have swum tlio' remarkable distaneo of 225 feet without once rniniiiß to the surface. The fact that tho New Zealand champion, M. E. Champion, will bo competing, should lend. further interest.. POST OFFICE CLUB RACE. The final of the G.P.O. 100 yards handicap was decided at the Te Aro Baths last evening. Shields notifies that he will bo absent from Wellington for the next three Wednesdays.
