THORNDON CLUB RACES. ,On Yy'ednesday evening tho •Thorndon Swimming Club got off the final of tho SO ■ yards handicap, preliminary 'heats for which had been decided on" Tuesday evening. Details are as follow:-—H. W. H&ris, 12sec, 1; W. R. King, 9scc 2; S. Dudson, 4sec, 3. Also competed: C. Davidson, 9sac, W. O'Meara, Csec.. T. Duffy, 4sec;, and S. , Henrys, 4sec. Time, 40sec. A splendid finish resulted. Harris gainod the verdict by *n touch from King, who'waa inches only ahead d Dudsoii. •A specially arranged 50 yards handicap resulted as follows:—A. W. Smith, 9sec, 1; J. Shearer, 4sec, 2; G. Bruce, 4sec, '3. Also started: K Wiggins, 2scc.; K. Robertson, scr.; and F. Roberts, scr. Time. 39sec. The limit man won with something to spare, but the race for secoiid place iwas closely contested. " Last evening at, Thorndon Baths, the above club decided the preliminary heats of a''loo yards handicap. The hamli<;apper (Mr. Calnan) was successful m bringing tho coirmptitors close to•"ther, thus providing exciting finishes. The results were: — ■ First heat: K. Robertson won by a touch from Dudson, who was closelyattended. by Watson- and Smith. Second heat: R. Evans (osec), 1; J. Burns (lOsec), 2; W. Lomas (Bscc), 3. Also started: C. Davidson, 17sec.; J. Wareham, 9scc; G. Bruce, 9sec.; and J. Shearer, Bscc. Time, 67see. A fine finish, .inches only separating the placed men. Third heat: W. O'Meara (19sec), 1; F. Roberts (scr.), 2: — M'Caskey (12sec), 3. Also started: H. W. Harris, 20sec.; K. Wiggins, lOsec. Time, 82 2-ssec. O'Meara won by a touch. Tho race for third place was closely contested; The final will be decided this evening, when a 50 yards boys' race will also be held. • . , SWIFTS CLUB RACE. ■ The Swifts Club decided a 220 yards handicap at Tβ Aro Bath? on Tu'esday evening last. SATURDAY'S CARNIVAL. . There promises to be ono or two unique events at the swimming carnival at To Aro Baths on Saturday afternoon. A Fijian named Aminio Marama, who has been performing some rather wonderful feats in under-watcr swimming, u'ill, it is. stated, give an exhibition. At the baths last Sunday morning this South Sea Islander is said to have swum tlio' remarkable distaneo of 225 feet without once rniniiiß to the surface. The fact that tho New Zealand champion, M. E. Champion, will bo competing, should lend. further interest.. POST OFFICE CLUB RACE. The final of the G.P.O. 100 yards handicap was decided at the Te Aro Baths last evening. Shields notifies that he will bo absent from Wellington for the next three Wednesdays. On Saturday evening ho leaves for Blenheim to attend tho championships; an February 25 he intends to be present at the children's swimming carnival to be held under the auspices of the Feikling Borough Council, and on tho day following he will attend tho Mastertdu ladies' swimming sports, after which lie will pay a holiday visit to Auckland.

The carnival will be held on the evenings of the 16th, 18th, 20th, and 23rd. Competitors will be entertained at a| garden fete on the 19th, "social" ou the 17 tit, smoke concert on the 21st. There will 1 o a ladies' evening on the. 21st, and a .'cricket match the same day. Coaipetitors include M. E. Champion, E. C. Atkinson, and Miss O'Leary (all holders of championships).
