Palmarston, February 11, The fifth annual exhibition under tho j auspices of tho Dannevirke A. and P. t Association opened to-day in brilliant, weather, and with a record attendance | for a first d.ty. Numerically tho entries wore tho sarao as last year. The mosC pronounced shrinkage was in regard to the sheep classes, in which there were 66 less entries this year than last. There wore only eight entries in stallions. Mr."W.- F. Tattersall's. Bandsman, being the.only competitor in thoroughbreds, secured first award. The ponies were a, strong class, eliciting 27 entries, loonies over 13.2 hands, and not exceeding 14.2 hantls—Miss N. Armstrong's Toby, 1; Miss- M. Mackenzie's llhone, 2; Miss N. Armstrong's 3. Pony over 12 hantls and not exceeding 13.2 hands—E. Isaacson's Tommy, 1; Miss E. Armstrong's Impy, 2; T. I Mills's Princess Nell, 3. Pony riot cxrceeding 12 hands—-Miss E. Grant's Pearl, 1; H. A. Ferguson's - Ruby, 2; Miss P. Speedy's Yum Yum, 3, The Horses, Exceptionally good entries were produced in tho saddle horse classes, and the competition was decidedly 'keen. The exhibits in Jerseys, Holsteins, and Ayrshires were exceptionally.fine, the judges being most enthusiastic in commenting 'thereon..' The honours in Jerseys were distributed between H. Stratford, Pahiatua, H. H. Phillips, and E. A. jßamson (Dannevirke), Milton Alpass, and J. Murray. The championships were secured by H. Stratford (cow;, and J. Murray (bull). In fat lambs and sheep, L. C. Rathbone .(Dannevirke) \ was the principal prize-taker,- securing five .firsts, ten seconds, and four thirds. In' Border Lcicesters, J. A. Wolsh (Dannevirke) scooped tho pool,. securing both championships, five firsts, and four seconds. In Southdowns, P. G. L. Mackenzie (Dannevirke) secured the championship for ram, and Ellis Bros, for owe, while J. A. Riddell (Dannevirke) took the majority of first-and. second prizes. -.The Romncys provided a very opeii'corripct'iiion. G..E. Allen (Carterton)..:ivon. both championships'-.and the other prizetakers were W. H. Buick and W. B. Allen. In Lpncolns, the championship for ram was awarded to Macdonald (Dannevirke); ewe, Henry Gaisford (Oringi).: Both.-these exhibitors topk the majority of first and .second prizes also. , ■ ■ .. Jn pigs, the principal awards in Berkshires went to tho Weraroa Training Farm. ,'l'hero were very few entries in dairy produce.
