Ostler, Crown Prosecutor, intimated to Mr. Justico Denniston that tho prisoners connected with the . Customs frauds intended to ■ plead, guilty. Tho accused men were placcd in tho dock as each charge was read-out, and' all, pleaded Guilty. . ." ' Tho accused were: John Hill and James Anderson Campbell, lato Customs officers; Sariiuel John M'Cormick and Christopher Robert Smith, lately in tho employ of the Now Zealand Es- ■ " press Company; George Clifford Francis, lately m tho employ of Stevenson, Stewart and Co.; Ernest Walter AVood. lately in the employ of J. T. Hoywood and Co.; Francis Geoffrey Leigh, lately in the employ of T. H.'Green and Co.; and Hugh Lawton Owen,- a Customs agent. The reading of tho charges took ■fully half an hour. His Honour said that' he did not propose to deal with the cases that morn--ing. He would require as full particulars as possible in order to ascertain the nature of the different charges. ■ Sentence was, deferred. .'
