—* The annual combined picnic of the staffs of the Public- Works and Mines Department was held at Trentham racecourse on Saturday. At the conclusion of the sports programme, which was a long one, and included a number «£ races for children, Mrs. Campbell, wife of the Government Architect, presented tho prizes to the undermentioned competitors in tho different events :— 220 Yards Handicap (men). —Palmer, 1; Price 2; Elliott, 3. . Wheeloarrow Race (men). —Hopkins and-Slatt, 1; Clinch and Donaldson, 2. Egg and Spoon Race.-—Miss Hooper, ■1; Miss Wordsworth, 2. ■Relay Race , (men).—Plumhers and Electricians, No. 2 team, 1; Carpenters, 2. . 100 Yards Champions'hip.—Laagbein, 1; Price, 2; Elliott, 3. Dress Scramble Race—Galliers, 1; Donaldson, 2. Relay Race (ladies).—Misses Bassett and Nicholson, 1; Misses Nicholson and Powell, 2. _ . . 440 Yards. Handicap.—Hopkins, 1; Galliers, 2; Webb, 3, Men's Race (over 45 years).—White, 1; Eilers, 2; Bassett, 3.
