At the meeting at tho Mansion House xn support of tho British Peace Centenary Fund, tho Lord Mayor stated that it was proposed to raiso £50,000. Tho Duke of Teck announced that the celebrations in Britain, Canada, and tho United States would begin nest Christmas. The Prime Minister (Mr. Asquith) said that tho Governments ,of Ureal; Britain and the United States were not officially associated with tho celebrations. Probably for that reason the celebrations wero more likely to bo fruitful, producing a solidifying deep-rooted feeling. Lord Bryce declared that during tho past century there had been many opportunities for war between Great Britain and America if tho desire had been there". The peace period was nniquo on account of the fact that the United States-Canadian frontier, running for three thousand miles, might easily have furnished controversies; The Chairman of the American Executive hoped that tho celebrations would lead to a better understanding of ' the Americans.
