ENLARGING THE TOWN HALL.

• MAYOR'S PROPOSAL. In yesterday's issue ftn idea, was given of tho number of works that wer© likely to be incorporated in tho schedule of the proposed city improvements loan. One that had been mentioned by the Mayor .(Mr. J. P. Luke) was, however, omitted, This was the proposed addition to the Town Hall, buildings in order to provide additional office accommodation. At present thgre aro sections of the staff occupying 'dressing rooms, tiny toohis in th-e organ loft, and any o.dd corner in tho; building that will accommodate a table and n chair.' Mr. Lnfce holds that it'is tery necessary to extend tho office premises tliia year, and W proposes to d.® it- by building an addition to' tho Town Hall at'the bade. Ho aifgiposts that tho addition should bo as high as the Town Hal!, and, areTiitect-uraily speaking, should ho built in haTmony with the existing structure. Whether tho addition should bo on tho Moraer Street or Wakefield Street front-ago has not'befW decided, and perhaps it may be found noce-ssarv to, carry it right through from, street to street. If that were done thero would be entrances in the new block which would connect with Hip principal corridors in tho Town Hail, so t'liat visitors to the hall would not. hayo to enter from Cuba Street only.- >
