In December there arrived at Valparaiso the yacht Mana, bound from England to Easter Island, to attempt to solve- tlio mystery of that island. Mr, F. Cory, a otologist of tire Cambridge University, joined the vessel there. and after taking in stores she fot sail for her destination, The expedition is .commanded by Mr. W. Bcoresby Routledji©, and Lieutenant Ritchie has beeu sent by the Admiralty for work on tidal observations' and surveys, and for na-vwation. Tlio Maiia was designed by Mr. Charles Anderson. She is 78ft, long, with 20ft. t<am, and registers 126 tons yacht measurement. She is sehoGiier-rigged fore ami aft, and has doneJier ten knots an how, She carries an auxiliary motor, but it is only used for going in and out of harbours. Tlve expedition will not re. turn to Valparaiso for three years, when it is hoped that the mystery of the Pacific will have been solved, or that at least the expedition will succeed in carrying it a long way nearer to the solution.
