IRREGULAR MANNERS ST.
CHANGE© LOOMING. The Wellington City Council has notified Mr. S. Gilmcr, of the Royal Oak Hotel, by proclamation, of its intention to acquire a strip ■of land of irregular depth on 'th,e Manners Street side of the leasehold property held by hjni at tho rear of tho hotel, and now povered by a one-storied brick building, which is used as a motor garage. This' is another step towards the work'of widening that part of Manners Street lying between Cuba Street and Tarana-kr Street. ; This section of a mia r city street. Varies, in width by 15ft. • It is 15ft. wider opposite the Royal Oak Hotel than- it is opposite the Manners Street Police Station, and the proposal is to even the width .'by. taking a strip of land from tho south side of the thoroughfare; This will mean the demolition of tho police station, and.the merging of the greater part of the triangular block -which it occupies into tho street. ,
It is not anticipated- that: tho proposal will offer any difficulties.' Arrangements have already been made with the Crown regarding tho nolice station. With respect to other buildings affected, Mr. John Flockton is a .monthly tenant. Mr. A. Ross has yet to be arranged with. The corporation •lease of the premises known as Hall's Turkish Baths has about Tjm out, and, as stated' aboVe, Mr. Gilnier has been served with a .proclamation respecting the strip required from his block.
