' 'A strango ftory of matrimonial ehtanglemcnts was unfolded ,in tho ; Supreme Court to-day, when Clara ridge, of New widow, proceeded against the Public' Trustee for an order to set asido_ the transfer of her property t6, Benjamin Enroth, made at a';iimo when slip believed, herself his, Wife. Enroth was a man nearly seventy years of age, and he lived for five year's at;New; Plymouth with Mrs. Berridge, . whom ho married in 1906. stating that lieiwas-a-widower; Enroth posed as a religious man, and taught in a,Sunday tichool. He died in 1911, and it was subsequently discovered that' his' name/was Ebenezer 'Jiiorne, and that'he had a wife living in.Brisbane. ■ ■!;In tlieproceodings to-day, evidence was Riven that .Enroth married one Kate Hoopwell in England, and went to Sydney.' His wifo died, and he then married Mdrali E. Lane, but left her. Ho .next ■ft<>nt to England, and married a widow named Mrs. Earle. , She died,- and he ■obtained her , estate, and camo to Now Plymouth, where ho married the plaintiff in the action in 1906. He induced her in 1907 to .transfer certain land to him, and also obtained'£loo from her. He built houses on the property, and mortgaged it .for £745. He then made another will, leaving her 30s. a week, and a'reyersion to Mrs.-Earle nnd the daufrhterjbf his first'wife. In 1911, when dyin", he had a will made in Mrs. Be'rridge's '.favour, but. was too ill to' siiyi jb,;,arid died, leaving her practically destitute. . ■•''•• . .; jTlie evidence: of the, plaintiff was that Enroth'or Thome had sold her property, took the' proceeds of it, and said' that ho": had property, worth £11.(100.
