Cresus Boasquet, a music hall manager, obtained special trunks filled with sand and pasted on them labels for different destinations, and a confederate made; a declaration that the baggage contained valuable theatrical property. Several railway employees wero parties to tho conspiracy. They removed the trunks at, junctions, during the journey, affixing falso duplicate numbers corresponding with tho receipt numbers. The police discovered the trickery. Tho railways have paid indemnities for lost luggage, at tho rate of £80,000 a year.
