ISLAND FRUIT.
ALTERATION OF STEAMER SER- •■ VICE. ' Tlie Union Steam Ship Company wrote to the Council of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, stating that changes and dovelopmente in the requirements of their servico to and from Fiji, Navigator,' and Friendly Groups had reached a point where alteration m tho itineraries of the steamers trading to those places had become necessary. It was notified that 1 under the new_ conditions the s.s. Navua would leave Wellington every 28 days for Auckland, then to Suva (and Lovuka when required), Nukualofa, Haapai, Vavau, and Apia. From Apia the vessel would return direct to Suva, and thence to Auckland and Wellington. This arrangement, stated tho letter, would placo Welliugton in direct monthly communication with the three groups of islands named, instead of as formerly, transhipment of passengers and cargo being involved at Auckland.
