ATHLETIC SPORTS.
SWIMMING. ONE HUNDRED YARDS TEST. In order to selcct a representative for tho 100 yds. New Zealand championship, to be field at Blenheim in a few weeks, the Wellington Centro held a test raco at To Aro baths last evening. Five-competitors faced the starter, viz: Fordham (Swifts Club), R. M.'> iewman (Old Boys), A. MacCarlie (Wellington Club), S. Murrell (Wellington), and A.' Crowther (Wellington)' Fordham set a great pace from tho start, and at tho 60yds. mark had a lend of moro than a yard from tho rest of tho field, who wore separated by inches. Fordham maintained his. advantage, while 3lacCarlie gradually drew away from tho rest. The last- ten yards saw Fordham and MacCarlio dVaiv out still further, the former' winning from MacCarlio by about a yard and a half, with Newman a foot or so- further, back. Murrell nnd Crowther finished in that order. The winner swain ai exceedingly fine race, covering the distance in 66 2-ssec. JlacCarlie was privately timed at 68sec. WELLINGTON'S TEAM. The Wellington team will comprise tho following:— 100 yds.—C. V. Fordham (Swifts Club). 220 and 440 yd s ;: H. M. Newman (Old Boys' Club). ■ , 220 yds. (breast stroke): C. H. Neal. 100 yds. (ladies): Miss A. O'Leary (Mastcrton Club). 75yds. (schoolboys): .Master D. Murrell (Clyde Quay School). The team is to leave Wellington for Blenheim on Saturday, February 14, at 7 p.m. STAR B.C. CARNIVAL. ■ The Star Boating Club has been granted permission to hold a swimming carnival at Shelly Bay on February 7. An attractive programme has been drawn up, and so far satisfactory entries have been received."
