'After forty-five years as commander nf the passenger steamer connecting Thames with Auckland, Captain Alexander Farquhar is retiring. As a mark of their; appreciation of his work tlie citizens of Thames on Monday evening entertained Captain Far miliar and presented him with an illuminated address. Mr. _W. G. Wickham. British Trade Commissioner for New Zealand, leavos to-day for Sydney, en route to England. During his residence in "Wellington lie has been actively associated witlr amateur theatricals, in which his ability arid experience have made him many friends and admirers. Ho is an Enthusiastic student of the drama, and has done,much to inculcate a taste for reading g.oods plays in the circles in which ho has moved.
