MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.
THE POWER SCHEME. The fortnightly meeting of the Miramar Borougli Council was held last night. Those present were: Tile Mayor (Mr. C. L. Townsend), and Councillors Well, Buntly, nml Tracy, A report on l the progress of the Minimal' power scheme was submitted by Mr. It. L. Mestaycr. It stated that the whole of the machinery had now been eroded and the cable connections between generators arul switchboard had been made. The trial run and official test would take plaeo some time next week. He h;id submitted specifications for tho lighting ef the power station to Messrs. J. J. Niven and Co., and had rcccived a quotation from them of £54. He had given instructions for tho work to be put in hand. Now that- tho plantwas practically finished, running operations could ho commenced shortly. He considered that it would be necessary to appoint, a shift engineer for the scheme.
A letter was received from the Eruptito Safety Explosive Company asking tlio council if it- would supply clcctrie power for running a 2.5 h.p. motor to bo used ill driving machinery _ for tho manufacture of cyliudical cartridges. After consultation the council decided to reply that it would;'bo pleased to have tho.company as a consumer, but had not yet settled tlie qiMsstion of what voltage will bo supplied in tho neighbourhood of the works. . Moreover, the council had not yet adopted a scalo of. charges. It was decided to give tile necessary authority' to carry out work as previotssiy agreed upon on tlie tram connections from the power station to the overhead tram wires. . The District Fund Account showed a credit balance of £512 3s. 2d., while a bank balance of £164 li)s. 7d. -stood to tho credit of the Power Supply Loan. It was decided to call for applications for the position of shift.- engineer in connection with the Miramar power schcme. ' Tlie Mayor,was given authority to go through'-the applications received and bring down a report on them. . ' ■,
