Details have been received of a proposal, which is stated to be nearing finality, for the start of a new line of steamships between the Pacific coast and Australia. The promoters aro the Merchants, Trust, and Trading Company of Vancouver, and it is reported that tho company is backed by several prominent English capitalists and has subscribed capital to tho extent of a million dollars. Tho intention is to run a monthly or bi-monthly line of 13-knot vessels with extensive insulated space and one-class passenger accommodation. The run will bo direct to Melbourne, with the option of calling at any other ports in Australasia.
