DUTCH NEW GUINEA.

Before the Royal Geographical Society, Dr. Wollastotl/descnbed his expedition in Dutch New Guinea. . Ho stated that tho women and children all . smoked, and partook, of a drink which they mado themselves, but which was not intoxicating. . There was nothing to Highest that cannibalism was practised by the natives.
. Dr. A. F. It. Wollaston, F.R.G.R., in company with Messrs; C. B. Klcw, Van do Water, and others ascended, the Great Stibw Range of Dutch New Guinea in 1913. The difficulties which the expedition encountered ore evident b.y the fact that, though the furthest point reached was only sixty miles from.the landing point, tho journey occupied four months and « half. Three members of the parly succumbed,, and Dr., Wollaston himseif had n narrow escape, losing three months' diaries by the capsizing of a canoe in the rapids.
