MOTOR VERSUS TRAM.

THE FINANCIAL SIDE. KARORI COUNCIL ANXIOUS At a meeting of the Karori Borough Council last night somo discussion took placo oit the probable effect tho Karori motor-bus service will have on the kairori Council's tramway service. Tho Mayor (Mr. C. Cathie) reported that a committee .of the council had had a conference with tho Tramways Hoard of tho city as fo tho probable'effcct of tho motor buses running. The now departure had scarcely got a start yet, and till tho council knew what tho effect of tlie competition was to bo it was not easy to advise any stops to moot the difficulty. The Tramway Board recommended the Karori Council to wait for a month, and J;ho- board would also endeavour to give exact information as to the effect of the motor-bus service on the finances of tho council, when the council could again go into the matter with tho Tramway Board. Tho Mayor was of opinion that tho board wero not. frightened of tho service doing tho council any great damage, and did not recommend tho council acting in any haste at all. He thought they should agreo to wait for the month.

It was agreed to wait tho month before again considering this matter.

_ Councillor T. R. Boyes drew attention to the fact that a member of tho Tramway Committee of the council was also a shareholder in tho motor-bus enterprise. Tho member ill question was supposed to be doing his best for tho council, and yet was canvassing peoplo to ride in the motor-bus. Ho thought, it unfair that tho councillor ill question should be a member of the Tramway Committee, and get insido information while ho was a shareholder in the motorbus company. Ho therefore gave notice to move at tho next meeting of tho council that the councillor he had named should bo asked to resign from the Tramway Committee.

MentioYi v. r as also made, that complaints had been received of the alleged reckless manner.in which the regular bus on tho sea-vice was driven.

The Mayor said ho had hoped that tho City Council would have taken, some steps to regulate the traffic, as tho greater part of the route, t.nkon was within tho city boundary. Ho' would havo expected that when tho drivers' licenses wero-issued the men would havo been taken over the road. It was a very dangerous route,- but tho drivers must have had- tho impression that it was liko the Hutt Road, and thought they could go at fifty milos an hourV

After considerable discussion a motion, put by Councillor Hamilton, was carried, to the effect that the Legal Committee consider the matter, with a vienv ,to taking stops to regulate the traffic, also that thoy interview the City Council and report later.
