THE QUESTION OF TOLLS. By, Teleeraph—Press Association—Copyright Washington, Januaj-v 26. President Wilson conferred with the; Foreign Relations Committee on the question of Panama tolls, and in regard to the Japanese'land controversy. He stated that the situation was not critical in connection with either quostion, hut .he wished to test the committee's .sentiments on various pending important questions., ■ .. . . 'The President expressed the hope that the Peaco Treaties of Mr. Bryan (Secretary of State) would soon be ratified.. The Japanese question , was still open for negotiation. It is reported that Dr. Wilson expressed a desire to see a general Arbitration Treaty with Great Britain ratified first and afterwards hoped that Mr. W. C. Adamson's resolution 'now before the House would be carried, thus suspending tho operation of free tolls for two years.' Diplomatic correspondence is meanwhile proceeding.
