PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

An ordinary meeting of the Petono Borough Comieil was held last evening. Present: The Mavor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) and Councillors List, Forsvth, Cos, Broeklebank, Jones, Findlay, Townsend, Trueman, mid Anderson.

A letter was received from the Stewart Timber Company forwarding cony of communication received from the Union Company re the arrival of bluegum for tho council, and stating that they are writing their Hobart suppliers, asking' that they take- all the timber which they can possibly; secure on hoard. The Union .Steam Ship Company also wrote ro timber, stating that their head office had been x requested t-o forward tho blueginn as early as possible by intercolonial steamers.—Received.

Tho Commissioner of Crown Lands wroio ro formation of William Street (Wilford Settlement). The letter stated that there was no engineer at prosent available to prepare the plans, but it was honed that one would be available shortly.—Resolved, that a reply by tho Mayor to tho effect that every means should be taken to expedite the matter bo coil firmed.

The Hutt Park Committee asked the council to pass for payment the balance of its proposed contribution t.o its funds for the current year.—Requost granted. The secretary of the Gear Meat Company wrote slating tliat'as itwas supposed that a. lino of the council's drainage ran under sonic of tho company's vards and buildings, the matter was to be. referred to tho company's chief engineer,, who would do| what he. could to moot- the council's wishes —The_ matter was referred to th-o borough engineer to take what action may ho necessary.

It was resolved to grant, a fortnight's extension of time to the Motor-Bus Committee. An application for apposition as motor-lms conductor was referred to the Motor-Bus Committee. It was deci-ded to levy 10 per cent, on all rates six months and fourteen days after demand.

Mr. W. B. Goujrh was appointed inspector of billiard saloons for tho borough.
